CanSkate

Learn to Skate:
  • Canskate: Is a national program designed by Skate Canada for school aged children. They will learn forward and backward skating, stopping, turning and many other skills to build a solid foundation for all types of skating . . . for figure skating, hockey or recreational. Helmets are mandatory until the skater has successfully completed Level 5. This program runs for 45 minutes. Skaters will receive 15 minutes of lesson with a professional coach and 30 minutes of supervised practice time.
  • Pre-Power: This national program is designed by Skate Canada for young skaters; approximately four to six years of age who can stand up on skates and move forward (shuffle, walk or glide). Pre-Power helps develop basic skating skill abilities in a power skating-specific environment, including balance skills, forward skating, backward skating, stopping, turning and agility skills. Full hockey gear can be worn – no sticks. Pre-Power has been designed to run concurrently with Canskate sessions. Each session is 45 minutes. Skaters will receive a 15 minute lesson with a professional coach and 30 minutes of supervised practice time.
  • Excel: Is a recreational figure skating program using a group format to introduce skaters to free skating, stroking, dance and skills. Skaters need to have completed the Canskate Level 4 program or be advanced onto the Excel program by a professional coach. Skaters will have a coach available for this 75 minute session.

Synchronized Skating Teams:
We have three Synchro teams. Synchro is a group of 8 to 20 skaters, skating to music, like a drill team on ice. Skaters must be working on Level 4 of the Canskate program and must be skating one other session other than Synchro to join the team. We have an open house at the beginning of the season for skaters to get a taste of what Synchro is all about.

Private Lessons:
Available to all skaters Monday and Friday afternoon, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings. Our club offers Freeskate, Stroking, Skills and Dance Sessions. A small group of 3-4 skaters may also arrange for private lesson time. Private lessons can be used in conjunction with any of our programs. It is up to the parent to contact a club coach of their choice and make arrangements for these lessons. Fees vary for these lessons.

  • Freeskate: Performing various jumps, spins and footwork skills accompanied by music.
  • Stroking: 15 Minute group lesson with a coach prior to freeskate. Good warm up and good cardio workout as well.
  • Skills: Performing various turns on a pattern, using edges accompanied by music.
  • Dance: Performing specific steps to a certain pattern accompanied by music.
  • Open: Performing any discipline of skating at any level.
  • Jr: No freeskate tests passed
  • Sr: Any freeskate test passed
  • Expanded: Double the pleasure. Two days a week in the Canskate or Excel programs.

Private Lesson Coaching:
Please feel free to contact the directors with any questions about coaching or email our web site and we will have a coach contact you as soon as possible.
